I have managed to finish my latest pattern though. My friend said the shapes reminded her of old fashioned TV screens, so I've called it 'TV Squares'.
It is a lap rug, 39" x 50", perfect for keeping your legs warm while reading a book or watching TV. I used two charm packs, one a Bella Solids in Cream and the other Symphony by Sentimental Studios (both from Moda and both obtained by me back in May this year!).
When I first received the Symphony charm pack (it was a giveaway win) I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It didn't really seem like my kind of fabric and the colours didn't appeal to me. I decided to use it for this pattern because I wasn't sure how the pattern would turn out, and if it didn't work I hadn't wasted a fabric I loved. The more I worked with this fabric though, the more I found such lovely colours and patterns. It's such a shame I can't get more of it now! The teal I chose for the sashings matches one of the colours in the prints and now I love teal!
Using the entire charm pack leaves 8 left over squares. I used these to make a pieced backing.
When going out to purchase fabric for the sashing/borders, backing and binding, I was very uninspired and decided to get one fabric to do the whole lot. It did make working out the quantity a lot easier! I just bought 3 metres and went with it. I'm so loving that teal colour I want to go back and buy more. Not sure what the fabric is, it was just in the discount pile at my local fabric shop.
And I did mention a giveaway??
To celebrate the release of this new pattern, I'm giving away a copy of this pattern (emailed in PDF format) and a City Weekend charm pack to get your started. I know it's a bit of an old fabric design, I've had it sitting in my stash not getting used so someone else might as well get some use out of it!
GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED
I think one of my all time favourites has to be Astro Boy (the 80's version). I remember crying at some episodes when I was a kid (some of them are really sad!). I have the boxed set on DVD and suddenly have the urge to watch them all again, after searching for below picture.
You don't have to be a follower of my blog to enter but if you are the winning comment and you are also a follower you might find something else in your parcel.
The giveaway will end at 9pm (AEDT) Saturday 12th November at which time I will close comments and randomly select a winner. For those of you around the world, this is more likely Saturday morning your time, so don't miss out. I will announce the winner here on Saturday night (my time) so make sure to check back and see if you've won.
Your quilt looks amazing - I would love to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite old-skool TV programme has got to be Blossom. I thought Six was the best - so kooky. And Joey Lawrence was cute!

One that I recall was called SuperTed...a galaxy traveling superhero of a teddy bear! LOL Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I follow!
Your quilt is lovely. I loved watching Disneyland on a Sunday night. We would have our dinner and an early bath and sit down to watch it without fail. There were so many I loved and I'm enjoying watching some of the old ones again on digital tv.

ReplyDeleteI always like to watch The Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. We would all get together at my grandparents to watch while we ate supper. I miss those shows... I also liked to watch the Flinstones... Thanks for a chance to win an awesome giveaway! And I'm a new follower! :)

ReplyDeleteWarmest regards,

There are so many that I liked but did like The Facts of Life and 21 Jump Street with a nice young Johnny Depp
ReplyDeleteI am a follower and as far as tv shows...hard to pick just one, but I will tell you that as kids we never missed Ed Sullivan and Bonanza and Red Skeleton. They don't make them like that any more...sigh.
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite TV show is "I Love Lucy." It came on after the evening news, so I couldn't wait for Walter Cronkite to say, "And that's the way it was." That particular phrase signaled the end of the news. I also loved "The Brady Bunch" and "The Partridge Family."
